UFC 128: Luiz Cane Destroys Eliot Marshall

by Michael David SmithLuiz Cane defeats Eliot Marshall at UFC 128.Luiz Cane absolutely obliterated Eliot Marshall Saturday night at UFC 128, drilling him with a couple of big punches standing up in the early going and then finishing him off with dozens of punches on the ground.

Cane showed that he's just a much better striker than Marshall, who never had much of a chance: Cane has power and accuracy with his punches, and Marshall doesn't have much of anything in the stand-up for a striker of Cane's caliber.

The victory improved Cane's professional MMA record to 11-3, including nine wins by knockout or TKO. Cane had lost two straight fights, but he showed against Marshall that he's back in a big way.

Wanderlei Silva training video: The forgotten piece of the middleweight puzzle

The UFC has worked hard to try and add depth to its middleweight division. Brazilians Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva were a big part of the plan. Belfort flamed out in his shot at Anderson Silva and Wandy seems to have been forgotten by many fans and media types. Once he gets healthy, the former king of the PRIDE 205-pound division is still very much in the UFC's middleweight mix.

Check out the cool training video put together by WandFC.com. Silva, recovering from knee surgery, is seen training in California at King's MMA along with Rafael Cordeiro, Fabricio Werdum and Satoshi Ishii.

As for the champ, nothing is certain about his future. There's talk of a super fight against welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre, but GSP indicated recently that he's not sure he'll even take the fight and that he'll needs lots of time to acclimate himself to the higher weight class. He also suggested that Yushin Okami is next in line for Anderson Silva. If GSP beats Jake Shields next month, the hype for the super fight will begin. GSP may even ask for it to be at a catchweight. If that's the case don't guys like Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva deserve a shot first?

Here's the top 15 in the world at middleweight according to the USA Today/Bloody Elbow rankings:

1. Anderson Silva

2. Chael Sonnen

3. Yushin Okami

4. Nate Marquart

5. Demian Maia

6. Vitor Belfort

7. Ronaldo Souza

8. Jorge Santiago

9. Michael Bisping

10. Dan Henderson

11. Wanderlei Silva

12. Jake Shields

13. Robbie Lawler

14. Hector Lombard

15. Alan Belcher

STRIKEFORCE NEWS: Melendez vs. Kawajiri expected to remain on April 9 card; Noons and Masvidal on standby due to Japan earthquake

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Strikeforce_Diaz_vs_Daley_poster_180.jpg
The earthquake that devastated Japan this week has put in doubt some scheduled fights in multiple organizations, and for the newly-acquired-by-Zuffa Strikeforce, their April 9 event has two fights at risk.

With Tatsuya Kawajiri and Shinya Aoki both in high profile fights on the card, Strikeforce officials have put K.J. Noons and Jorge Masvidal on standby in case one or both of the Japanese competitors is unable to take their fight due to issues in their home country.

However, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com, Kawajiri at the least is expected to stay on the card, where he'll meet Gilbert Melendez for the Strikeforce Lightweight Championship.

The event takes place from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif., and airs live on Showtime with an expected headliner between Nick Diaz and Paul Daley.

Link to Original Source Article

Penick's Analysis: It's good to hear that Kawajiri and Aoki are alright. From reports, it appears that most if not all of the major Japanese fighters survived last week's disaster, though that's but a small bright spot for us here in North America involved with this sport. The UFC already had Yoshihiro Akiyama pull out of a bout on next week's UFC 128 card, and Kawajiri and Aoki would have been well within their rights to do the same. But it looks like this card will go forward with the planned fights, provided Daley doesn't follow through on his talk of pulling out of the main event with Zuffa now in control of Strikeforce.

UFC boss says new champ Jon Jones' biggest tests may lie outside of the cage

At just 23 years old, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones appears to have the mixed martial arts world in the palm of his hands.

But after "Bones" dismantled former champ Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at this past weekend's UFC 128 event, UFC president Dana White said it's not the palm of Jones' hands that need to be monitored right now.

It's his back.

UFC NEWS: Mac Danzig vs. Donald Cerrone booked for UFC 131 in Vancouver

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

LogoUFC_150_831.jpg
Mac Danzig has gotten himself a fight by calling someone out, as the UFC today announced that he'll meet Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at UFC 131 in Vancouver.

Danzig took to Twitter to call Cerrone out after Cerrone got a bout with Paul Kelly at UFC 126 in February. Said Danzig at the time, "So all you have to do to secure a fight you haven't earned is wear a silly hat, call yourself 'Cowboy' and talk trash?"

He'll now get that fight, and the season six winner of The Ultimate Fighter will attempt to continue on with the momentum gained from a knockout win over Joe Stevenson in December. The win was only Danzig's second in his last six fights, but was his second over the last three after successfully halting a three fight losing streak.

Cerrone, on the other hand, has been hot, winning three straight fights after his second loss to Benson Henderson last April. After an extremely impressive win over Jamie Varner in their rematch last September, Cerrone ended his tenure in the WEC with a submission win over Chris Horodecki, and then successfully entered the UFC with a win over Kelly on the UFC 126 card.

UFC 131 takes place from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on June 11, headlined by the heavyweight number one contender's bout between Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos.

Penick's Analysis: This is another great fight in the UFC's lightweight division. Cerrone, coming over from the WEC, still needs to prove himself in this stacked division, and despite Danzig's recent losses, he's an Ultimate Fighter winner and a very dangerous opponent, and he's a name well known in the UFC. This is a big chance for both fighters to get a win over a recognizable name, and it should prove to be another exciting lightweight fight.

Nine Ways of Looking at UFC 128

Filed under:

From predictions to aimless questions to mild concerns, here's some food for thought with UFC 128 just around the corner.

I. The best thing Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has going for him in his first fight back after a long injury layoff? Practice. He already found out the hard way what happens when you try to push it too far, too fast after surgery. He barely had enough gas in the tank to put away an aged Mark Coleman, who showed up to the fight with his own tank already on E. If Rua makes the same mistake again, and against a much better fighter in Jones, he deserves to wake up without the title on Sunday morning.

QUOTABLES: Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva wants to fight Brock Lesnar now that Zuffa has purchased Strikeforce

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Bigfoot_Silva_180_5.jpeg
"It'll be very good, I'm looking forwards to know how it?ll be like. I've never had issues with anybody, I've always respected everybody, but as a professional I believe it'd be interesting fighting Brock Lesnar. I don't agree that Brock is the second on the ranking, it doesn't make sense. This fight would be interesting so I put Brock on the place where he was supposed to be... It really doesn't make any sense."

-Strikeforce heavyweight Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva talks to Tatame.com about the fight he'd like to have now that Strikeforce has been purchased by Zuffa.

Penick's Analysis: Silva has made countless disparaging remarks about Lesnar throughout the last year, and coming off the biggest win of his career over Fedor Emelianenko it's a fight that could make a lot of money for the UFC sometime down the line. There are a lot of very interesting heavyweight fights that will hopefully be made over the next couple of years with all of them under one roof, as despite the claims of "business as usual" I believe it's just a matter of time before the top heavyweights from Strikeforce are in the UFC. But with all Silva has said about Lesnar, it'd be nice to see him have a chance to back it all up, and that fight could be a very big fight for the UFC in the next year or so.

Elbows to the Head on the Ground Now Allowed in Strikeforce

by Michael David SmithAlthough UFC President Dana White insists that things will remain "business as usual" now that his company has purchased Strikeforce, one rules change will be implemented: Elbows to the head on the ground will now be allowed in Strikeforce.

UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said on a conference call announcing the purchase Monday that Strikeforce will implement all of the unified rules of mixed martial arts that the UFC uses, and that includes allowing elbows to the head on the ground. The banning of those elbows has been the one significant difference between Strikeforce fights and UFC fights, and that difference will go away.

TAPOUT: "Punkass" and "SkySkrape" reflect on Charles "Mask" Lewis two years after his death

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

tapout_logo_180_2.jpg
In March of 2009, Charles "Mask" Lewis was ripped from the world in a tragic automobile accident in California. The charismatic co-founder and unofficial leader of the MMA world's top clothing brand TapouT, Lewis touched the lives of so many fighters, fans, trainers and more involved in this sport, and his death shook the MMA world.

Two years later, the surviving members of the TapouT crew, Dan "Punkass" Caldwell and Timothy "SkySkrape" Katz have reflected on the memories of their friend, confidant, business partner and more in an interview with Jonathan Snowden at BloodyElbow.com.

"In our world he was the general. He was described in an early article about us as 'a more infectious Tony Robbins.' Every person he talked to felt like they were the only person in the room," said Caldwell. "He always knew the right thing to say. When he told you things were going to be okay, that we'd make something happen, it was settling. You believed things really were going to be okay. He read a lot and he was able to spit a lot of knowledge. I remember being worked up about something one day and he asked me 'Dan, can you do anything to change it?' And I said 'Not really.' And he asked 'Then why worry about it? Your wasting a lot of energy and that's ineffective.' Little pieces of wisdom like that. He was a natural born leader. We would look to him for answers and he could deliver. He was just very inspiring. He was my best friend for 20 years and the most inspiring person I've ever been around."

While Caldwell had an extremely close relationship with Lewis himself, even he felt like Lewis' death hit Katz harder. As he put it, Lewis was a big brother to Katz, and the loss of such a mentor and friend was extremely tough to take.

"He was like a big brother to Skrape," Caldwell said. The guy he looked up to. Anything that was in Skrape's life, he would talk to Charles about. Even though I looked up to him in the biggest way, when me and Charles talked it was man to man. I had a kid and a girlfriend that I lived with. It was a different situation. But I felt so bad for Skrape, because I knew how close he was with Charles. I'd had other deaths in my life, but I knew this was going to be on another level for Skrape. I was really worried that he wasn't going to get out of this without doing something crazy. To himself maybe. I knew both of our lives were going to be changed forever."

Katz echoed those sentiments, and with both of them still running TapouT on a day to day basis, under new direction after selling the company to Authentic Brands Group six months ago, said that Lewis is always on their mind.

"There's not 10 minutes that go by in a day without thinking about Charles. Our life is surrounded and entrenched in TapouT. It's impossible to not think about him," Skrape said. "For six, eight, ten months I was kind of just numb. When I met Dan and Charles I was only 18 years old. I was just out of high school, just a kid. He was like a big brother, like a father figure. He was my best friend. I looked at him for everything in my life. And suddenly I couldn't go to him anymore. When we got into a city we would just walk, the three of us walking, talking, dreaming, all that nonsense. We'd end up on a bus bench or something. Memories like that are kind of cool to think about. There's still so much more to accomplish. We haven't come close to making it, to fulfilling Charles's dream of being the biggest brand in the world. Charles always talked about TapouT being his dream. I hope he inspires people to go out and live their dream. If other people can't see it, that's because it's not their dream. Do what is in your heart and don't worry about what anybody else tells you."

There's much, much more from "Punkass" and "Skrape" in the full interview, and I encourage everyone to check it out. Full Link: http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2011/3/11/2037545/tapout-mask-death-interview-skyskrape-punkass-charles-lewis

Penick's Analysis: Mask's death was shocking and tragic, and I can't believe it's already been two years. The TapouT crew continues to do great things for the sport, although they are taking on a new and advanced business model with ABG CEO Jamie Salter at the helm. They continue to increase awareness for the sport, and continue to support a lot of fighters through sponsorships, and it all started with Mask and these two with him in the back of a van in the late 90s. Mask's contributions to the sport and its fighters will never be forgotten, and all fans should take a moment out to remember him and those contributions two years later.

UFC on Versus 3: Munoz scores a huge KO against Dollaway

Mark Munoz and C.B. Dollaway were decorated collegiate wrestlers, but they said during the prefight interview that they were willing to slug it out. Maybe Dollaway should've stuck to the grappling.

He scored a takedown early, let Munoz get up and then got bombed by a straight right. Dollaway fell to his back and got nailed by two more hammerfists. Referee Mario Yamasaki had to jump into save the downed fighter just 54 seconds in.

A few seconds later Dollaway (11-3, 5-3 UFC) regained his senses and couldn't understand why the fight was stopped. His eyes were glassy and he looked lost on the ground after the final hammerfists.

Since his move to middleweight in 2009, Munoz (10-2, 7-2 UFC) has been very good with five wins against just one loss.

Evans and Jones beef getting serious

Rashad Evans waited a long time to get his shot at the UFC light heavyweight belt against Mauricio Rua. Then he suffered an injury that would keep him out 6-8 weeks. Evans was hoping the fight would be delayed, but the UFC's troubles were averted when Jon Jones stepped in on short notice. One problem, Jones is a teammate of Evans and now the former UFC 205-pound champ is peeved at "Bones."

"When he joined the team, he joined the team on the premise that he wouldn't fight none of us because that's…with Greg Jackson, that's one of his policies. Greg brought him on the team and he said he was like, you know what? Jon's on this team, he'll be a good addition to the team. He's got a good style and he's an up and coming kid and he'll never fight you or never challenge you or nothing like that," Evans told Larry Pepe. "There's nothing you need to worry about. He brought him onto the team with that intro."

Jones didn't get the memo and jumped at the opportunity to take on Rua at UFC 128. He's clearly aware that Evans isn't happy and snapped off during last week's prefight teleconference.

"I absolutely hate when people mention Rashad Evans, especially throughout this training camp….for people to even be mentioning Rashad Evans right now…I think it's ludicrous. Rashad is not in my mind, he's not in my being, he has absolutely zero to do with my heart and who I am right now," Jones said. "This guy has nothing to do with Shogun and from here on out, I don't think I'll answer a question about Rashad.I have a lot of people outside of Rashad who I can draw energy and power from and they'll all be with me."

Evans got the message and said Jones is speaking out of inexperience.

"That does sound a little bit cold-blooded. Jon's a young guy and when you're a young guy sometimes you talk a little too fast for your brain to keep up. I don't think it's acceptable at all. I don't think it's something I'd say.It sounds like he wants to fight, huh? Those sound like fighting words," Jones told Pepe. ".[...] Sometimes when you open your mouth you show what you're afraid of more than anything. I don't know why he has such an adverse response like that to me. I've never challenged him or made him feel like he should do that sort of thing. It sounds to me ? if I was out of the situation ? that he was feeling insecure about me. You can't just expect to not talk about a situation where you stepped in for a friend and training partner in a title fight who was injured. You can't take it personal… That sounds like a baby."

If Jones wins the title, Evans has to consider taking the fight and more significantly leaving the only training he's known in Albuquerque under Greg Jackson.

"It's something I gotta talk to Greg [Jackson] about it and I gotta talk to Jon [Jones] about. That's how I believe things should be done. We entered into an agreement together and if things are gonna go another way, I don't think he should have to find out from TV. He should find out from my mouth before I tell anybody. That's just how I do it as a man.I just have to sit down and decide on whats its going to be, because whatever it is going to be, there is no going back. There is no making it better. There is no going back to the team after it is done.If we agree to fight, if we say we are going to fight, it's over," Evans said. "[...] I would need to divorce myself from the situation and just start over, and come with something new. I would divorce myself from the crew from Jackson's.Trevor [Whittman] would be separate because he is at Grudge. Jon trains in Albuquerque, so I just would divorce myself from Albuquerque and from training with Greg."

Dana White is pretty clear on his thoughts about friendship being a roadblock anywhere in the fight game. He's happy that Evans is finally seeing the light.

"It makes sense [that they fight each other if Jones wins the title]. There's been a lot of stuff [said by] Rashad. Rashad thinks that I'm hatin' him or whatever the deal is. I don't. The reality is ? I said it on your show the last time I talked to you ? he hasn't known Jon Jones that long. To call him a brother and this and that…I really believe that…and Rashad didn't tell me this. Jon Jones didn't tell me this. This is just something that I came up with in my head. This has to be coming from the camp," White told MMAFighting.com. "[...] The reality is, this isn't a team sport, man. You look throughout the history of boxing, guys used to have to spar with each other all the time and the guys who came in as sparring partners eventually became world champions some day. You have to train with other people. You have to train with the best. It's a fact. You just don't become such "close friends" that you don't want to fight each other. It's [expletive]."

Evans should straight out call for the winner regardless of training camps and "friendships."

"If I was Rashad, I would say whoever wins this fight I wanna fight," White said. "The guy got injured; he was next in line for the fight. I'd wanna fight him too. But now he's gotta sit around, he's gotta wait and see what happens with these two, he's gotta wait to see who wins ? do they come out 100 percent or are they injured and have to wait a little while or do they want to fight again? He's put himself into a bad position and that's what I was saying about him: He's boxed himself into this corner."

UFC Will Give Fans What They Want, Which Means Strikeforce Superfights

The UFC and Strikeforce are not currently planning any champion vs. champion matches between the two promotions, and UFC President Dana White says he doesn't have any future plans to book the best fighters from Strikeforce against the best fighters in the UFC.

But make no mistake: Superfights are on the way.

White and UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta both said in announcing their merger on Monday that they view their job as giving the fans the fights they want. And there's just no way to accomplish that goal without eventually booking Strikeforce champions against UFC champions.

HYDEN BLOG: Paul Daley, Michael Bisping, and the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix

By: Frank Hyden, MMATorch contributor

Staff08Hyden_Main_39.jpg
Paul Daley is now set to challenge Nick Diaz for the Strikeforce Welterweight title on April 9. Daley certainly has the power to knock Diaz out, but that's only if Diaz decides to stand and trade with him. That would be the least advisable strategy for Diaz, so I think he'll look to take the fight to the ground early. If Diaz boxes with Daley it'll be entertaining, but there also would be a good chance of Daley scoring the knockout. I think Diaz wins this by submission in the second round.

*************

It's time for both Jorge Rivera and Michael Bisping's camp to shut up. I wasn't a fan of all of Michael Bisping's antics over the weekend, but Rivera started it with all the crap in his videos in the lead-up to the fight. Bisping was right in that the videos were racist, but then Bisping loses the high ground when he used a homophobic slur in a response. Regardless of whether the illegal knee was intentional or not, Rivera was overmatched by Bisping in that fight and it likely would have ended the same way without the knee. I know Rivera was just trying to hype the fight ahead of time, but he went too far.

*************

B.J. Penn and Jon Fitch fought to a majority draw last weekend. Watching it, it appeared to me as though Fitch won, but it wasn't a dominating performance. The third round was all Fitch, but the first round was Penn and the second round was very close, though I gave it to Fitch. This didn't really solve much, but I guess they can rematch and go for the Welterweight Title if Georges St. Pierre vacates the belt. If Jake Shields beats GSP, a fight with either Penn or Fitch would be interesting. I think Fitch is a better wrestler than Shields, but Shields is better at submissions. I think a motivated B.J. could handle Shields and beat him by submission. Fitch vs. Shields would probably go to decision, but I think B.J. would have Shields beat by the third round.

*************

I think it's incredibly dumb for Strikeforce to delay the Heavyweight Grand Prix. Strikeforce is running in California April 9, and that means that Josh Barnett can't fight Brett Rogers that night because Barnett won't get licensed. The remaining first round matchup is Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum. June 18 in Texas is the date for the final two fights in the Grand Prix quarterfinals. That means that Antonio Silva, who beat Fedor Emelianenko, and Sergei Kharitonov, who beat Andrei Arlovski, will have to wait even longer before they get to fight in the second round. I don't want to run down Strikeforce too much, but this just speaks to poor planning on their part. They should have had all this stuff squared away before having the Grand Prix begin. I know you have to be flexible in business, but this is a big deal for them. It was certainly generating fan interest. If you have an extra two month delay, that's going to cause big problems.

*************

I don't want to waste any time talking about anything Chael Sonnen does or says, especially when he's currently on the sidelines. I don't care what he has to say. That said, I would definitely be interested in seeing Sonnen fight Michael Bisping. Without question, I would be openly rooting for Bisping, as I believe Sonnen, while a good fighter, isn't a good human being. Half the fun of Sonnen losing is seeing him make excuses or outright lie about what really happened. I think Bisping could, and would, beat Sonnen if they fought. I also think the UFC would be smart to make such a fight.

Shark Fights 14 results: Villefort decisions Horwich, LaRosa taps Damm

Mercurial middleweight Matt Horwich can still take pride in the fact that he's never been knocked out in nearly 50 professional fights, but he can't say he's never been dominated.

UFC and WEC veteran Danillo Villefort controlled "Suave" both on the feet and the floor for the entirety of their 15-minute affair.

The bout served as the featured contest of Friday's Shark Fights 14 event, which took place at Fair Park City Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas, and aired live on HDNet.

UFC NEWS: Kszysztof Soszynski vs. Anthony Perosh coming to UFC 131 in Vancouver

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

LogoUFC_150_822.jpg
Krzysztof Soszynski will get his wish, as MMAJunkie.com reports that he'll fight at UFC 131 in Vancouver in a bout with Anthony Perosh.

The Poland-born Canadian said in an interview this week that he wanted to fight on the Vancouver card, and the UFC has obliged with this bout with Aussie Perosh.

Soszynski returns for the first time since a win over Goran Reljic at UFC 122 in November. He has split wins and losses over his last four fights, though he holds a 5-2 record overall inside the Octagon.

Perosh has split his two bouts in the UFC, both of them coming in his home country in the UFC's two trips to Australia. Though he suffered a loss to Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 110, he was successful at UFC 127 last month with a first round submission win over Tom Blackledge.

UFC 131 is expected to take place from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver on June 11, headlined by the heavyweight number one contender fight between Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos.

Link to Original Source Article

Penick's Analysis: This is a decent fight in the light heavyweight division. Perosh moved up in weight to meet Cro Cop in 2010, but looked good against Blackledge back at light heavyweight. Soszynski will be the favorite in this fight, and he's beaten a higher level of competition than Perosh has faced overall, but it's a decent fight for both and a solid undercard fight for this event.

UFC NEWS: All drug tests come back clean from UFC 127 in Australia

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

UFC_127_poster_180_20.jpg
The UFC independently conducted drug tests on six fighters on their UFC 127 card in Australia, and all results came back negative, according to multiple published reports.

Per UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner, headliners B.J. Penn and Jon Fitch, as well as four fighters chosen at random, were all tested and their results were clean.

All fighters were tested for drugs of abuse, anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing substances.

UFC 127 featured the main event draw between Penn and Fitch, as well as Michael Bisping's second round TKO victory over Jorge Riveira.

Penick's Analysis: The UFC doing random testing on their own events is just good business, and even though they didn't test that many on the card doing it at random was the right move. Typically the main event fighters and main card winners are tested, along with anyone that has previously tested positive, but the UFC decided to go with four at random for this event. Obviously the current testing being done doesn't often catch many that are using, as in all sports testing falls well behind of those using and the technology of new drugs, but making an effort is always the first step.

UFC NEWS: UFC signs Norwegian heavyweight Jon Olav Einemo

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

LogoUFC_150_815.jpg
The UFC has signed Norwegian heavyweight Jon Olav Einemo, according to a report from Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com.

The 35-year-old member of Team Golden Glory compiled a 6-1 record in MMA competition from 2000-2006, but left the sport for nearly four years after a win over James Thompson. He returned to MMA last June, defeating Kresimir Bogdanovic in Bosnia.

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt has been successful in competition at the Abu Dhabi Combat Club tournaments, and is the only person to defeat multi-time ADCC champion Roger Gracie in grappling competition.

There's no word on the length of the contract, or when, where and against whom Einemo will debut against, though he'll likely debut sometime soon.

Link to Original Source Article

Penick's Analysis: Einemo's only career loss was to Fabricio Werdum in his one fight in Pride, and though his career was spent against an overall lesser level of competition in Europe, he's got a very good primary skill set in his jiu jitsu game that can play a major factor. He wouldn't be a name upon his debut, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him tapped for someone like Shane Carwin in June, who doesn't have an opponent yet. I think Einemo would be more interesting than Cheick Kongo at this point for Carwin, personally, but it's not necessarily a likely move on the UFC's part with a debuting fighter. Still, prior to leaving the sport at the end of 2006, Einemo finished all of his fights except for a decision loss to Werdum. He'll be a good addition to a division that can always use more depth.

Ebersole's cartwheel kick actually works

Brian Ebersole made quite an impression in his UFC debut. The biggest was a win over UFC Lytle veteran Chris . Throw in his wacky chest hair arrow and that cartwheel kick attempt to start the fight, and the Indiana native has some fans clamouring for another look.

Did you think the cartwheel kick was sort of ridiculous? It might be, but the kid's actually made it work in the past. Lytle's been around too long to get nailed by a trick like that, but not every fighter has 53 fights under his belt.

Check out this 2009 highlight, first found by Cage Potato. Michael Schiavello is on the call and gives us his trademark "Goodnight Irene" call when Ebersole crushes Shannon Forrester with the kick.
